Why Fitness and Adventures?

Fitness AND Adventures, why both? Because it’s my life! Just last weekend, Wade and I had breakfast in bed, visited the Vore Buffalo Jump, rode our motorcycles, worked out, tried getting lost in the Jeep, went for a run, helped teach a couple their wedding dance, ate amazing home cooked steak and cabbage with andouille sausage, and went for a long walk around Lead at night!

Fitness and adventures go hand and hand; we are meant to move, to get outside, to explore. Most people are already involved in a physical activity or sport. Whether its dancing, martial arts, running, team sports, gardening, chasing your kids, hiking, biking, or climbing. Workout to be better at these activities, not just because you THINK you need to lose weight.

Our bodies are meant to move, to be used, to do stuff. We aren’t meant to run on the treadmill for hours just for weight loss, or to go on fad diets, or to constantly put our bodies thru weight gains and losses. We should eat healthy, all the fruits and veggies and meats, because they taste good and provide critical nutrients our bodies need…..not because we want to decrease the number on that stupid scale!

Of course we shouldn’t sit around eating only processed and sugary foods, moderation is key. But we should live our lives fully and not deprive ourselves of anything. You won’t die from enjoying some candy or cake every once and awhile and you should definitely indulge in all the food when you travel to another country. Disclaimer: of course there are those of you with restricted diets because of health reason, please follow your doctors advice.

If you are involved in physical activities, there are several healthy side effects that happen “accidentally”! Lower blood pressure, better regulation of blood sugar, lower resting heart rate, improved immune function, increased muscular strength and endurance, increased bone density, increased flexibility, better joint health, improved mental functioning, higher quality of sleep, and more!

Get involved in an activity that gets you off the couch and outside (ok yes, outside is my preference but you can be active inside). I workout in the gym so I can be better at my adventures. I write fitness programs that will make us better at our sports and hobbies. When I am older, I won’t be thinking about whether I am at my goal weight or if I still have my six pack…...I’ll be thinking about all the adventures I took, the races I won, and all the great food I ate in all the wonderful places across the world!
